Probably not exactly what LMFAO and Lil'Jon had in mind when this song came out, but I couldn't resist! I personally have never had an issue getting shots or blood drawn. It's not the most pleasant experience, but I never found it to be bothersome. Enter, giving myself shots.
Let's go backwards for a minute to the process of IUIs. I was almost two years into my infertility journey when my doctor suggested trying an IUI (intrauterine insemination). Basically the doctor injects the sperm through a catheter past the cervix to give it a better shot of reaching the egg during ovulation. The two-ish weeks leading up to ovulation you go to the doctor every few days so they can do blood-work and an ultrasound to assess how your eggs are growing, and when you are expected to ovulate. I chose to take oral medication as well to ensure ovulation, since it was determined that my period wasn't always regular and perhaps timing was our issue. (Also, side note: my doctor said that at home ovulation predictor kits are not always exact....so I was SUPER happy to hear that after spending money on those gosh-darn things and peeing on a stick every day!)
Once your eggs are large enough, you are instructed to receive a "trigger shot" to trigger ovulation, and then you go to the doctor about 36 hours later for the procedure. The only problem is that this usually means the shot has to be at night....on your own. (dun dun dunnnnn *scary music*)
I'll be honest, this particular shot was truly the skinniest needle I had ever seen, which did ease some nerves right off the bat. My husband did offer to do it for me, but I was determined to do it on my own. A deep breath and a 1, 2, 3, count and it was over. DID IT HAPPEN? I DIDN'T EVEN FEEL IT! For real...skinniest needle ever! I have to say, I did sort of feel like Wonder Woman after that (minus the warrior/hippie head piece). Unfortunately for me, the IUI failed, as did the next two after that. The process of giving myself shots though became easier each time (until I saw the process of shots for IVF....but more on that later.)
So, as my dear friends said...."With Patron on the rocks, I'm ready for some shots!"
Cheers!
